There have been about fifteen space missions to Venus, and one of the famous ones is Venera. The Space missions to Venus have shown us that the surface is covered with craters, volcanoes, mountains, and big lava plains. Some of the volcanoes are named Sapas Mons, Sif Mons, Gula Mons, Maat Mons, and Pancake Dome. Maat Mons, one of the more famous volcanoes, is a massive shield volcano. It is the second-highest mountain, and the highest volcano, on the planet Venus The surface of Venus is extremely hot and dry, it can reach up to 492 Celsius, or 900 Fahrenheit. The reason it gets so hot is because the planets air is mostly carbon dioxide so it creates a greenhouse effect, and Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system. At one point it was thought that Venus might be a tropical paradise. The estimated age of the Venusian surface is around 300-400 million years old. Due to the thick clouds enshrouding Venus, the details of its surface cannot be obtained through simple photos even though there have been missions there.
